MWDOC Hosts Earth Day Event at Coronet Park by Municipal Water District of Orange County Apr 18, 2024 Member Submitted News Since 1970, Americans have celebrated Earth Day, and over the past five decades, we’ve increased what we know about preserving and protecting our natural resources. On Saturday, April 20, The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC), in partnership with the City of Westminster, the Wyland Foundation, Ten Strands, and Inside the Outdoors, will present an Earth Day Event at the beautiful Coronet WaterSmart Conservation Garden. This unique educational event will allow attendees to discover the transformational power of sustainable water use through interactive displays and engaging hands-on activities throughout the garden, where the art of water-smart living meets the science of conservation and water-efficient technologies. Designed by Saddleback College students, the Coronet WaterSmart Conservation Garden showcases low water-use features that Orange County residents can easily adopt at home. These include water-efficient trees and native plants, smart irrigation systems, permeable landscaping materials, and natural features that conserve water and minimize runoff. The Earth Day event will focus on cultivating environmental champions, offering engaging activities like tree planting, wildlife interaction, nature journaling, and a community mural to inspire proactive ecological stewardship. The event will also showcase the artistic talents of a fourth-grade class from Meairs Elementary School, who submitted work to the 2024 MWDOC Water Awareness Poster Contest, a creative platform for students to express the importance of water conservation. Additionally, educators can discover a collection of teacher resources designed to bring environmental education into the classroom. Attendees may even run into MWDOC’s lovable water-smart mascot, Ricky RaindropSM! Everyone is welcome on Saturday, April 20, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Coronet Park (15251 Oakcliff Dr., Westminster) for this family-friendly event that promises an enriching, educational experience for all ages! www.ocwatersmartparks.com/westminster
