NWRA Western Water Seminar – Highlights

The National Water Resources Association, of which ACWA is a member, recently held its Western Water Seminar in Colorado Springs. 

Many issues of interest to ACWA members came up for discussion during the seminar.  They include panel discussions on “Getting it Done In A Tough Financial Climate”, “Public/Private Partnerships: Are They Right for You” and “Emerging Issues in a Politically Charged Atmosphere”.  During the Municipal Caucus session, attendees heard about cleaning up uranium pilings in Moab Utah from Donald Metzler, Moab Federal Project Director, US Department of Energy. 

Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) provided the Keynote address and ACWA Executive Director Tim Quinn outlined “California’s $11 Billion Safe, Clean, Reliable Drinking Water Supply Act of 2012”.  Kira Finkler, Deputy Commissioner, US Bureau of Reclamation spoke on “Maintaining Operational Integrity with Reduced Federal Spending”.  NWRA’s Federal Affairs committee discussed EPA’s Draft Clean Water Act Guidance, aquatic pesticides rulemaking, and small hydropower legislation.

NWRA’s Annual Meeting is scheduled between November 16-18 at Loews Ventana Canyon, in Tucson, Arizona.
