The Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force

Overview

The Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force has released its fifth and final draft of a strategic plan to improve the sustainability of the Delta. Once finalized by the task force, the strategic plan will be sent to a cabinet-level Delta Vision Committee charged with making recommendations to the governor and the Legislature.

Building on previous drafts and substantial public comments to date, the latest version lays out seven broad recommendations with specific strategies to achieve the Delta vision described in the task force’s 2007 report. The recommendations revolve around the co-equal goals of achieving a healthy Delta and a more reliable water system for California.

ACWA has established a committee to monitor and provide input on the Delta Vision process. The association submitted formal comments in September on the fourth draft of the plan, and will provide further input as the strategic plan moves to the cabinet-level committee.

The cabinet-level committee is chaired by Resources Secretary Mike Chrisman and includes Cal/EPA Secretary Linda Adams, Business, Transportation and Housing Secretary Dale Bonner, California Public Utilities Commission President Michael Peevey, Food and Agriculture Secretary A.G. Kawamura. The committee is expected to convene at least two public meetings on the plan and will issue its own report to the governor and the Legislature by the end of 2008.
