ACWA Fall Conference Marks Final Centennial Year Celebration

More than 1,800 local water leaders gathered at ACWA’s 2010 Fall Conference & Exhibition in Indian Wells Nov. 30 – Dec. 3 to exchange ideas and discuss California water issues. The event marked the final celebration of ACWA’s centennial anniversary and a century of water leadership.

Conference programs focused on pressing water issues such as groundwater, water quality, Delta sustainability, the 2012 water bond and implementation of the 2009 legislative package of water bills. A sold-out exhibit hall drew large numbers of attendees.

Several dynamic speakers highlighted the meal functions, including California State Librarian Emeritus Dr. Kevin Starr, Southern Nevada Water Authority and Las Vegas Valley Water District General Manager Patricia Mulroy, and California Natural Resources Secretary Lester Snow.

The association also presented a number of awards at the conference, including ACWA’s Emissary Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Legislative Leadership Award, the Theodore Roosevelt Environmental Award, the Stephen K. Hall ACWA Water Law & Policy Scholarship and the ACWA Outreach Awards.

ACWA also unveiled at the conference a special centennial book titled “A Century of Leadership, Vision for the Future.” The full-color, hardcover book, written and produced by ACWA staff, chronicles the association’s history and many of the events and milestones that define California’s water community.
