Bureau Awards More than $1 Million in Water Use Efficiency Grants
The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded more than $1 million to local water agencies for projects aimed at conserving water and improving water management.
More than $600,000 in federal funds was awarded through the Water Conservation Field Service Grants Program. With the combined local cost-share contribution, more than $1.6 million in water management improvements will be implemented within two years. The Bureau estimates that these projects will either conserve or better manage more than 3 million acre-feet of water per year.
Sixteen agencies received grants, representing both agriculture and urban areas and ranging from northern California to south central California. For a list of agencies receiving funding, click here.
The Bureau awarded $500,000 for the CALFED Water Use Efficiency Grant Program. With combined local cost shares, more than $15 million in water management improvement projects will be implemented in the next two years. The agency estimates that more than 40,000 acre-feet of water will be better managed or conserved per year as a result of the awarded projects.
Five agencies received funding: the City of Anaheim, Contra Costa Water District, East Bay Municipal Utility District, the City of San Diego and the San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority. For more information, click here.
