Draft Report Released on Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Water Use BMPs
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) has released for public comment the draft report of the Commercial, Industrial and Institutional (CII) Task Force’s Water Use Best Management Practices (BMP) document.
The report, which ultimately will be submitted to the Legislature, was mandated by SB X7-7 (D-Steinberg) of 2009, which directed DWR to work with the California Urban Water Conservation Council to convene a task force to develop alternative BMPs for the commercial, industrial and institutional water sectors. The task force was charged with studying various issues related to CII water use, including: water use efficiency standards, appropriate metrics for evaluating CCI water use and barriers to increased recycled water use within the CII sectors.
The task force is made up of academic experts, urban retail water suppliers, environmental organizations as well as commercial, industrial and urban water businesses. Public comments on the draft report are due to DWR by close of business Nov. 9. ACWA members who want to submit comments are encouraged to contact Dave Bolland, ACWA senior regulatory advocate.
The draft report is available here.
