Delta Stewardship Council Meeting Includes Tour of Delta

The Delta Stewardship Council is set to meet tomorrow afternoon and Friday after touring several facilities in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta tomorrow morning.

On the agenda for discussion is a set of draft guidelines for the newly appointed Delta Independent Science Board, which is charged with reviewing the science underpinning the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan and other programs and activities in the Delta. The final guidelines and charge will be adopted at the ISB’s first meeting.

The council will also discuss the second Draft Interim Delta Plan and provide direction for preparation of a third and final Interim Plan, slated to be heard and adopted at the council’s Aug. 27 meeting. The second Draft Interim Plan has been revised substantially from the first to reflect the council’s input and public comments and suggestions received through July 2, and to achieve a more useful document. The Interim Plan is designed to be a framework for council activities until the Delta Plan is adopted, to allow the council to fulfill its responsibilities to other agencies, and provide a transition to the Delta Plan.

Stops on the tour include the City of Sacramento’s River Intake, Freeport Project Intake Facility, Delta Cross Chanel, and Sacramento River Levee Repair Site.

The Delta Stewardship Council was created as part of the comprehensive legislative package on water passed by the Legislature and signed by the governor in 2009. For all meeting materials, including agenda and tour itinerary, click here.
