Informational Hearing Set on Water Reliability and Seismic Risk

The state’s water delivery system and its vulnerability to a major earthquake will be the focus of an informational hearing Oct. 19 co-hosted by Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal (D-Long Beach).

The hearing will examine emergency management plans developed since the Jones Tract levee failure in 2004, agency responsibilities in the wake of a disaster affecting the water system, emergency response priorities and protocols and what additional measures may be needed to protect the state’s water supply.

Lowenthal, who chairs the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management, is co-hosting the session with the Assembly Select Committee on Regional Approaches to Addressing the State’s Water Crisis.

The hearing will begin at 2 p.m. at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
