Water Quality in Focus at Delta Council Meeting

Delta water quality and its impact on public health and the environment was a focus of a Delta Stewardship Council workshop in West Sacramento today.

Lead Scientist Cliff Dahm reported that his team is rewriting the draft Delta Plan chapter on water quality to include sections on salinity, public health and environmental quality. He expects to meet his deadline of midday on Tuesday, May 17.

During a comment period, ACWA Director of Regulatory Affairs Mark Rentz praised the layout of the third staff draft Delta Plan and urged the council to continue to take a comprehensive look at addressing the stressors.

ACWA and a coalition of water organizations submitted a letter to the council on May 6 expressing concern with the direction of the latest draft plan and urging the council to move away from its regulatory approach. Read more about the letter here.
