Federal Grant Funding Available for Desalination and Water Purification Research

The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that it is planning to make up to $1 million available for grants to fund research and projects in desalinization and advanced water treatment.

Commercial or industrial organizations, state and local governments, private entities and individuals are among the eligible applicants for the grants, which can range in value from $150,000 to $500,000, depending on the duration and nature of the project.  There is a July 7 deadline for applications, with the goal of the awards being made in September and projects starting on or around October 1.

The funding is provided as part of Reclamation’s Desalination and Water Purification Research and Development Program.  The stated goals of the program are to augment the supply of useable water in the United States, understand and minimize the environmental impact of environmental impacts of desalination, and develop methods for lowering the financial cost of desalination.

The official announcement and submission guidelines are available online at grants.gov under Funding Opportunity Number R10SF80251.
