ACWA Posts Policy Principles on Energy and Water Resources

Intended as a guide to help frame advocacy efforts, ACWA has developed a set of policy principles on energy and water resources. The principles are now available online.

The 12 principles – approved by the ACWA Board of Directors in July – address issues ranging from energy reliability and efficiency to renewable generation. The principles acknowledge the critical role water agencies play in stewardship of energy resources.

“For many water / wastewater agencies, energy is one of the most expensive and most controllable costs in their operations,” the introduction to the principles states. “All agencies should evaluate their respective systems and operations to identify opportunities for water and energy conservation and efficiency, distributed generation, renewable energy, energy storage and demand response projects. These projects reduce costs and maximize benefits to ratepayers while contributing to the achievement of the state’s energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.”
