Senator Dianne Feinstein Endorses 2010 Water Bond
On April 12, Clean Reliable Water for California released a statement quoting Senator Feinstein (D-Calif.) endorsing the 2010 water bond. She said the bond is a “responsible, balanced approach to begin making long-overdue repairs to our state’s water system.”
“The water bond would authorize much-needed investments to restore the Delta, improve our water infrastructure, and increase local supplies of water through increasing storage capabilities, clean up, conservation and recycling. As climate change impacts our State, it’s increasingly important that we capture water in the wet years to use in the dry years. Agriculture and the environment need a steady supply of water. It’s only through these measures that we can achieve that.
“I’ve seen firsthand the effects of our state’s water crisis and am deeply concerned about the growing catastrophe that waits our state without action now. Our homes and businesses face severe shortages that will impact our economy and quality of life. Hundreds of thousands of acres of Central Valley farmland have become literal dustbowls because of water shortages, depleting jobs and the world’s food supply. At the same time, the Delta is facing unprecedented environmental challenges which threaten hundreds of species of fish and wildlife.
“I urge my fellow Californians to support this responsible measure in November.”
ACWA’s board of directors voted to support the 2010 water bond on January 29, 2010.
“With passage of the legislative package last November, we have a framework for moving ahead with solutions. Now it is essential that we pass this water bond to provide funding for the projects and strategies that are central to solving our extreme water supply challenges,” ACWA President Paul Kelley said. “We can’t afford not to make this overdue investment in our water system.”
