Water Replenishment District Endorses ACWA’s Groundwater Framework

The Water Replenishment District of Southern California issued a statement April 4 endorsing ACWA’s new policy document on groundwater management, “Sustainability from the Ground Up: A Framework for Groundwater Management.”

Unveiled April 4 at a briefing in Sacramento, the document calls on agencies throughout the state to implement sustainable groundwater management plans and highlights examples of successful management strategies statewide. The framework also identifies impediments to success at the local level, and recommends actions and policies to help ensure the sustainability of groundwater resources.

"We are very encouraged by the release of these objectives," said Robb Whitaker, general manager of the Water Replenishment District. "WRD has been managing the groundwater of the Central Basin and the West Coast Basin of South Los Angeles County for over 50 years. Our integrated and sustainable groundwater management plan can serve as a guide to other agencies and we look forward to active participation in this plan."
