Statewide Association Comments on Passing of Steve Robbins

SACRAMENTO –Timothy Quinn, executive director of the statewide Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), issued the following statement on the passing of Steve Robbins, former member of the ACWA Board of Directors and general manager of the Coachella Valley Water District. Robbins died Sept. 27 at the age of 59 after a battle with leukemia.

“We are saddened at the loss of our friend and colleague Steve Robbins. His leadership at the Coachella Valley Water District, in the State Water Contractors family, and as a member of the ACWA Board of Directors set the stage for new, innovative water management strategies that will be essential for California in the 21st century.  

“His creative thinking and dedication to finding solutions will be missed tremendously. Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues and the many district employees who were inspired by him on a daily basis.

“Those of us who were lucky enough to work with Steve will remember his uncommon spirit, his wonderful sense of humor, his enthusiasm for solving problems and his many contributions to the water community.”

A memorial service for Robbins will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Palm Springs Air Museum, 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to City of Hope, 1500 East Duarte Rd., Duarte, CA 91010.
