ACWA Provides Comments on Statewide Biological Objectives Policy

ACWA has submitted formal comments to the State Water Resources Control Board on a proposed policy aimed at providing tools for evaluating and monitoring aquatic life in some bodies of water.

The State Board’s proposed Statewide Biological Objectives Policy was the subject of a series of public scoping meetings in September. According to materials prepared by the State Board, creating biological objectives will help improve water quality in streams and rivers by providing narrative or numeric benchmarks that describe conditions necessary to protect aquatic life beneficial uses.

In an Oct. 18 comment letter, ACWA expressed support in concept for developing a consistent statewide policy, but raised several technical and water management concerns that should be addressed.

ACWA’s comment letter is available here.

Further information on the proposed policy can be found here.
