LAO Releases Overview of Governor's Budget
The Legislative Analyst's Office released its review of Gov. Brown's proposed budget Wednesday morning.
In its report, the LAO calls the governor's proposal "a good starting point for legislative deliberations." It also credits his efforts to craft a budget focused on multiyear solutions and says his proposed realignment of state and local program responsibilities has much merit.
There are some significant risks and some optimistic savings assumptions, however, according to the LAO.
"There is significant work ahead to fill in the details of some of the Governor's ambitious, complex proposals, particularly given his proposed accelerated timeline for budget deliberations and a June special election concerning extensions of tax increases," the LAO report said.
