AB 1422 Amended to Move Water Bond to 2014

An Assembly bill has been amended to move the $11.14 billion water bond from the November ballot to the November 2014 ballot.

AB 1422, now authored by Assembly Member Henry Perea (D-Fresno), would move the bond measure to the 2014 ballot without changes to the content of the bond. ACWA supports the bill.

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) indicated Thursday that moving the bond is one of five issues he wants the Legislature to act on before breaking for summer recess next week.

Other priorities include action on high-speed rail, pension reform, a foreclosure bill and the governor’s reorganization plan.

AB 1422 has the support of Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), Assembly Speaker John Pérez and Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway (R-Visalia).

ACWA is playing a leadership role in the coalition that is supporting this bipartisan effort. The coalition includes agricultural, business, environmental, labor and water organizations. Floor votes on the measure will likely take place on July 2 or 3.
