2014 Legislative Year Begins in Sacramento
Lawmakers returned to the state Capitol on Monday to begin the second year of the 2013-’14 legislative session.
Water is shaping up to be a major issue in the months ahead, as the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee is expected to begin work early on a revised water bond in an effort to put it on the 2014 ballot. In March, ACWA’s Board of Directors approved support of a smaller $8.2 billion bond that protects key statewide priority areas. Other proposed alternatives would set the bond at $6.5 billion.
The Legislature is expected to address several other major issues in 2014, including prison overcrowding and how to deal with a $2.2 billion budget surplus. Gov. Jerry Brown will reveal his 2014-’15 budget plan on Friday morning.
