Water System Operational, But Boil Order in Effect for Some in San Diego Following Power Outage
San Diego County Water Authority reports its regional water treatment and delivery system is fully operational in the wake of a massive power outage in Southern California Thursday.
Water is continuing to flow into the county and to the region's 24 member retail agencies. Water in the regional system is safe, though residents are urged to reduce water use through the weekend and to check with their local water provider for any special instructions in their area.
The City of San Diego posted a boil water notice for several neighborhoods, including Scripps-Miramar, Tierrasanta, San Carlos, Bernardo Heights, Scripps Ranch, La Jolla-Soledad, Otay Mesa and the College-College Grove area. Details on the boil order can be found here.
City officials called the boil order a precautionary measure based on the possibility that reduced water pressure in some neighborhoods could allow contaminated water to infiltrate the system.
The California Department of Public Health has activated the Joint Emergency Operations Center (JEOC) in support of state and local agencies affected by the Southern California power outage. The CDPH Drinking Water Program (DWP) is assessing the impact to any public water system in the affected area.
