AWWA Seeks ACWA Members' Participation in Nitrate Cost Survey
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is seeking ACWA members’ participation in an online survey to gauge the cost impacts associated with potentially revised nitrate and nitrite standards.
The US Environmental Protection Agency recently completed its second six-year review of existing drinking water regulations and published the results of that review in the March 29 Federal Register. In this notice, EPA said it is considering whether to start new health assessments for nitrate and nitrite but had decided not to revise these standards at this time.
Noting that EPA could complete these new health assessments in the future, which could ultimately lead to revised nitrate and nitrite standards, AWWA is starting a project on the national cost of compliance for a lower nitrate standard.
The electronic survey will remain open until Friday, July 23. ACWA member agencies are encouraged to participate.
