State Water Board Begins Developing Mercury Reduction Program
A new program aimed at reducing mercury in California’s waters will get under way early next year with a series of workshops.
Led by the State Water Resources Control Board, the Statewide Mercury Program aims to develop new water quality objectives for mercury in the tissues of fish that humans and wildlife eat, and a policy or plan to meet those objectives. The policy or plan may include provisions for responsible parties to initiate actions to help address mercury reservoir problems.
The State Board will hold a series of public meetings to discuss these projects and take public comment beginning in early 2012. Stakeholders may receive notices about the program, workshops and opportunities to comment by subscribing to an email list from the State Board's website.
