California Natural Resources Secretary John Laird and California water agency representatives will testify before the Water and Power Subcommittee of the House Natural Resources Committee tomorrow on H.R. 1837 (Nunes), the San Joaquin Valley Water Reliability Act.
The hearing is set for Thursday, Jun. 2, at 10 a.m. Eastern time at the Longworth House Office Building, Room 1324. It will be webcast live.

The Senate Office of Research issued a new report today providing an overview on drinking water quality in California.
Titled, “The Water We Drink: What is California Doing to Ensure its Water is Safe?”, the Policy Matters report provides an in-depth review of the state’s Drinking Water Program and how California’s drinking water is monitored for safety. Key agencies, laws and processes are described in detail, including water quality monitoring, enforcement actions, and violations reporting.

The state Assembly has approved a bill aimed at allowing the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District to sell treated effluent outside its service area to offset the cost of complying with stringent new wastewater discharge requirements adopted for the district.

ACWA is calling all members who are interested in serving as a region board member for the 2012-'13 term to complete a candidacy form and a resolution of support from their agency and submit both to the ACWA office by June 30, 2011.
Region board candidacy forms and sample resolutions have been sent to every ACWA member agency board President and general manager and are available here along with a list of Region nominating committees.
