ACWA’s new preferred provider program with two of the world’s top solar energy providers offers members the ability to use onsite solar generation to reduce and control energy costs. SunPower Corp. and WorldWater & Solar Techologies Corp., two of the major solar electric system suppliers, have collaborated with us to provide this technology to ACWA members at the best possible cost.

Power is one of the biggest expenses for many water agencies. It takes a great deal of energy to treat water and move it around. Changing tariffs will make electricity even more expensive in the future and we encourage our members to take steps to control those costs. One of those ways is to reduce purchases of utility power by generating your own clean, renewable power from the sun.

Our providers—WorldWater and SunPower —are among the best solar system providers in the world. Through our preferred provider program, they are offering pricing guarantees to ACWA that assures that our members get the best deal out there:

  • SunPower will meet or beat any competitor’s offer in terms of the verifiable net cost of the energy produced by an installation.
  • WorldWater will meet or beat any competitor’s offer in terms of installed cost.

In addition, each company offers unique patented technology that provides features not available from other suppliers. WorldWater’s proprietary technology allows a solar system to function also as a backup generator when there is a power outage. SunPower’s PowerTracker system tracks the sun to maximize energy generation.

The systems provided by our providers can be scaled from small to multi-megawatt installations. These systems can power a treatment plant or large motors used for pumping water. Onsite generation systems reduce the total electricity drawn from the utility grid, particularly expensive summer electricity and daily peak power that will become even more onerous when new tariffs now in the works are implemented. By reducing purchases of electricity from the utility, you reduce operating costs.

Financial incentives in the form of rebates are available, but they are limited and there is substantial competition for them. That means the sooner your agency gets started in evaluating the potential, the better chance you will have of being successful in getting some of the rebate money.

If you ever thought about installing a solar generating system, now’s the time to take a serious look at the potential. It’s complicated, but our providers will help you through it, and Dr. House is available to help too. You are encouraged to get proposals from both solar partners and then pick one that best matches your agency's needs.
