Salary:  $11,375 – $17,700

Walnut Valley Water District is a California Water District located in Walnut, CA.  The District offers excellent benefits, including a monthly health benefit allotment of $ 1,800 for medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage; 2% at 55 for “Classic” CalPERS members as defined by PEPRA and 2% at 62 for new CalPERS members; and a 9/80 work schedule.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Executive Staff “At-Will” Fulltime Position

The District is currently seeking a qualified individual to join lead the Department of External Affairs and under policy and general direction of the General Manager: Direct all activities of the External Affairs Department including public information, community relations, governmental affairs, conservation, and water education. Plan, organize, and implement comprehensive District communication, outreach, public affairs, legislative affairs, conservation and customer information efforts; participate in representing the District on public and media relation matters; and to do related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of education and experience, which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities, is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Communication, Public Relations, or a closely related field.
  • Graduate degrees, or postgraduate work, in these same fields of study is preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of progressively high-level responsibility in community and public relations, preferably with a water district or other local governmental entity, three (3) years of which must be concurrent top-level management experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, a valid California Driver’s License – Class “C,” must maintain satisfactory DMV record, and ability to maintain insurability.
