The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting a webinar series to share and discuss the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with a broad audience. This webinar will address some of the challenges of maintaining operations during a PSPS event including generator maintenance, fuel resupply and staffing. Water utility speakers will share their experiences and lessons learned from PSPS Events. All utilities are welcome to attend.

The EPA collaborated with California water and electric utilities, the California Water Boards, and other stakeholders to develop the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Template. Although the SOPs were developed for PSPS events, most of the actions apply to any power outage that water utilities could experience. The SOPs provide actions that water utilities can take to prepare for, respond to and recover from power grid outages. The following topics are addressed: Generators and Backup Power, Fuel, Communication, Partnerships, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Staffing, Access and Safety.
