ACWA Produces Updated 2020 PSPS Toolkit for Members by ACWA Staff Jul 1, 2020 Water News ACWA recently produced an updated Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Toolkit as a resource to help member agencies prepare for power shutoffs this wildfire season. The tools were developed to assist members in providing communication and coordination with their customers, staff and other stakeholders. The toolkit encourages member agencies to prepare their customers for the 2020 PSPS season and provides sample press releases, social media posts and graphics, and e-notification text. The toolkit is available for members here. In addition, ACWA released a PSPS resource webpage in March that includes legislative and regulatory updates, funding opportunities and links to critical PSPS resources, including outage maps, fire threat maps, GIS mapping shapefiles, and relevant websites. The page is available at www.acwa.com/psps. The state’s electric investor-owned utilities (IOUs) continue to implement Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events as a preemptive safety measure to reduce the risk of utility-caused wildfires. These power shutoffs are initiated when there are red flag weather warnings or conditions that increase wildfire risk—strong winds, warm temperatures and low humidity levels.
