ACWA Releases 2021 PSPS Toolkit for Members by ACWA Staff Aug 4, 2021 Water News As drought conditions and wildfires throughout the state continue to spread, ACWA member agencies are urged to prepare for more frequent Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). ACWA has updated a number of tools to assist members in providing communication and coordination with their customers, staff and other stakeholders. The toolkit encourages member agencies to prepare their customers for the 2021 PSPS season and provides sample press releases, social media posts and graphics, and e-notification text. The toolkit is available for members here. Member agencies can also use ACWA’s PSPS webpage as a resource. ACWA’s PSPS resource page contains legislative and regulatory updates, funding opportunities and links to critical PSPS resources, including outage maps, fire threat maps, GIS mapping shapefiles, and relevant websites. The state’s electric investor-owned utilities (IOUs) continue to implement PSPS events as a preemptive safety measure to reduce the risk of utility-caused wildfires. These power shutoffs are initiated when there are red flag weather warnings or conditions that increase wildfire risk—strong winds, warm temperatures and low humidity levels.
