ACWA Releases Winter Drought Toolkit for Members by ACWA Staff Jan 11, 2023 Water News Despite storms and flooding throughout the state, California is preparing for a potential fourth consecutive dry year. ACWA released a new toolkit for members to use to continue providing customers, media and policymakers with insight into water agencies’ readiness as the state faces climatic extremes, including prolonged dry periods and intense boom-and-bust precipitation cycles. The toolkit — available online — includes social media posts and graphics, a newsletter or article and both urban and agricultural-related talking points. ACWA is encouraging member agencies to use the tools to maintain clear and frequent communication with customers and the media throughout winter about local drought preparedness activities. This can include reminders to conserve water even when it’s raining, mandatory water use restrictions still in place, rebate programs and other ongoing efforts. Now is also the perfect time to educate your community about local water resiliency investments, especially the importance of state and federal funding to improve aging water infrastructure and ensure a more reliable, resilient water supply as the extremes of climate change — including droughts and floods — grow more severe.
