Faces of Water: Casey Hashimoto – Oct. 2019 by Casey Hashimoto Oct 18, 2019 Newsletters Casey Hashimoto, General Manager, Turlock Irrigation District 1. Describe your job. I have ultimate oversight of the day-to-day operations of TID’s irrigation system, as well as the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity within our service area under the policy-setting guidance of TID’s five-member elected Board of Directors. Additionally, I provide leadership for TID’s employees to successfully implement TID’s Strategic Plan. 2. What do you like best about your job? I really enjoy being a public servant. Many of the big initiatives I’ve helped champion at TID as General Manager have centered around customer service and reliability of services. Additionally, I like the people I have worked with over the past 34 years. While there have certainly been successes and challenges, it’s the personalities, stories and laughs from my fellow employees that I will remember most from my time at TID after I retire this December. 3. How did you get into the water industry? In theory, I was born into it, with my family growing almonds locally. But practically, the energy industry propelled me into the water industry. As a practicing electrical engineer, I was able to spend decades learning about civil engineering and TID’s water and electrical systems because of the water-energy nexus experienced while working at a public agency whose customers rely on hydropower. 4. What is something unique about yourself? I would say I’m a decent poker player. I think my engineering mindset combined with my ability to observe people while temporarily suspending my own reactions/opinions helps me to consistently make wise decisions. 5. What is your favorite food? Red meat. I’m notorious for being a fan of a good steak-and-potatoes meal. When dining with co-workers, they often know what I’m pondering just by looking at the cuts of beef on the menu. Also, any good meal is made better with something containing chocolate for dessert. My staff members know me well and always let me know when there are sweet treats around the office.
