Octavia Tucker, Interim Group Manager, Real Property Group, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California

1. Describe your job.

The Real Property Group Manager is responsible for the acquisition, management and protection of Metropolitan’s properties, which are part of the district’s core functions to pump, treat, store and distribute water to Southern California.

2. What do you like best about your job?

There are so many things to like about my job, such as the interesting work, the ability to consistently learn something new or address challenges.  If I had to pick one thing, it would be the people.  It is a wonderful experience to be able to interact with and learn from so many different people from all parts of the organization.

3. How did you get into the water industry?

Simply put, I saw an advertisement for a job as a data entry clerk with Metropolitan.  At the time, I really didn’t realize what I was getting into.  With the ability to move into several positions within the organization, I have grown to appreciate, admire and respect the hard work that is needed to deliver water to our 5,200-square-mile service area where 19 million people reside.

4. What is something unique about yourself?

In this age of technology, I still love to go to the library or a bookstore and get my hands on an actual book.  I can spend hours at the library or bookstore looking over titles and trying to limit myself to selecting just a few books to take home.  I love to read everything from mysteries to biographies.

5. What is your favorite sports team?

My favorite sports team is the New England Patriots! I am a die-hard fan through good seasons and disappointing seasons. Six Super Bowl rings. … Go Pats!
