IRWD Recognized with WaterSense Award by Irvine Ranch Water District Oct 27, 2020 Member Submitted News The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Irvine Ranch Water District with a 2020 WaterSense Partner of the Year Award for promoting WaterSense and water efficiency in 2019. At a webinar ceremony on Oct. 7, WaterSense honored 28 utilities, manufacturers, builders, and other organizations throughout the nation that are making it possible for consumers and businesses to save billions of gallons of water each year. Irvine Ranch Water District was honored for a variety of programs last year. Among them: To help residents save water and energy, IRWD partnered with Southern California Edison and SoCalGas on the Get Smart Program. This direct-install effort provided customers with over 300 WaterSense-labeled weather-based irrigation controllers. IRWD’s residential rebate program provided financial incentives for customers to buy nearly 200 WaterSense-labeled high-efficiency toilets and more than 650 WaterSense-labeled irrigation controllers. To promote water efficiency in local businesses, IRWD certified six businesses through its WaterStar Business Recognition Program, which provides financial incentives for efficiency improvements. “I’m thrilled that IRWD has received this nationally recognized award,” Water Efficiency Analyst Melody Seesangrit said. “With innovation, collaboration, and environmental stewardship woven within Irvine Ranch Water District’s values, our Water Efficiency team is excited to continue working with WaterSense and its partners.” WaterSense, a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the EPA, is both a label for water-efficient products and a resource for helping consumers learn ways to save water. WaterSense-labeled products, homes, and programs helped consumers and businesses save 871 billion gallons of water in 2019, along with the energy used to heat that water and money on utility bills.
