Lieutenant Governor, State Water Leaders to Address 2020 Summer Virtual Conference Attendees by ACWA Staff May 27, 2020 Water News California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot and Department of Water Resources Director Karla Nemeth will deliver keynote addresses at the ACWA 2020 Summer Virtual Conference, ACWA announced today. Kounalakis was sworn in as the state’s first woman elected as lieutenant governor in 2019. She serves as acting governor whenever the governor is absent from the state, and automatically becomes governor if a vacancy occurs. The lieutenant governor is also president of the State Senate and votes in case of a tie. Previously CEO of the Water Foundation, Crowfoot worked in the administration of Gov. Jerry Brown from 2011 – 2017 as deputy cabinet secretary and senior advisor to Brown concerning drought response efforts. Kounalakis and Crowfoot will speak on July 29. Nemeth will deliver a July 30 keynote address. Before heading DWR, Nemeth worked at the California Natural Resources Agency as Gov. Jerry Brown’s deputy secretary and senior advisor for water policy since 2014. ACWA transitioned from an in-person to a virtual conference in order to follow state mandates on the prevention of COVID-19 spread. The 2020 Summer Virtual Conference, being held July 29-30, will deliver the same high-quality content and provide participants an opportunity to connect with the foremost leaders in the state’s water industry. The registration cost is $350 for members and $525 non-members. ACWA is automatically transferring existing conference registrations to the virtual event and allowing attendees to either apply the remaining credit toward the 2020 Fall Conference or receive a refund. Registration for the summer conference will open soon. More information is available online. For questions, please email ACWAConfQuestions@acwa.com.
