MWDOC’S Annual Water Awareness Poster Contest Underway by Municipal Water District of Orange County Jan 30, 2023 Member Submitted News ORANGE COUNTY – The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is now accepting entries for the 2023 MWDOC Water Awareness Poster Contest (Contest). For over three (3) decades, the Contest has inspired Orange County K-12 students to think deeply about their relationship with water and discover ways to protect and preserve our most precious natural resource. Through creative expression, students design original, hand-drawn posters that reflect the theme, “When in Drought, Every Drop Counts.” The deadline to submit entries for the 2023 Water Awareness Poster Contest is March 8. MWDOC receives hundreds of entries from students and classrooms across Orange County each year. Of the entries received, 40 winners are selected and recognized for their accomplishments through an interactive, outdoor learning experience at Friends of Shipley Nature Center with their friends, families, and teachers. The ceremony features student artwork displayed in a gallery-style art show and includes water-centric learning stations, a scavenger hunt, a presentation of awards, and more. Additionally, all winners receive MWDOC giveaways, water conservation items, framed artwork, and art supplies. Four (4) grand prize winners, one chosen from each grade band—K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12—receive an iPad! As an extension of the Contest, MWDOC will submit five (5) of the winning posters to The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s (Metropolitan) regional poster contest. Winners of this Southern California competition earn a spot in Metropolitan’s annual “Water Is Life” calendar and are recognized at a ceremony with their peers. For a complete list of contest rules, a promotional flyer, and an interactive activity that makes it easy to incorporate the contest at home or in the classroom, please visit www.mwdoc.com/postercontest.
