Scam Emails Claim to Have ACWA Members’ Contact Information for Sale by ACWA Staff Jun 8, 2021 Water News ACWA is reminding members of an ongoing email scam claiming to have a database for sale with contact information of either ACWA members or people registered for an ACWA conference. This type of scam has unfortunately become common within recent years, but ACWA does not sell or give away member or conference attendee contact information, including email addresses. Although the scam emails vary in wording, some claim to have such information as names, job titles, email addresses and phone numbers. ACWA previously hired a technology firm to assist with an internal investigation, which determined the scammers did not compromise ACWA’s customer relationship management software system or network. “Please rest assured that ACWA takes cyber security very seriously and neither sells nor gives away our members’ contact information,” said ACWA Executive Director Dave Eggerton. Anyone who receives an email claiming to have access to an ACWA attendee list or member contact information is encouraged to forward a copy of the message to CyberSecurity@acwa.com. Email recipients can also report this and other email scams to the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org/scamtracker/reportscam.
