Public Invited to Review/Comment on PWD’s Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan at JULY 28 Meeting by Palmdale Water District Jul 19, 2021 Member Submitted News PALMDALE – Palmdale Water District (PWD) will host a virtual public meeting to review the draft Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) that details threats from disasters and how they will be addressed. The meeting will be from 6-7 p.m. July 28 via GoToWebinar. Consultants from HDR Inc., who have been working with PWD on updating the HMP, will be presenting the draft that will include data collected from a survey completed by the community in May. To register for the webinar, visit https://bit.ly/3fJ2IIa. The meeting will introduce the draft and be open for public input. The final plan will be presented on Aug. 26 at the last HMP public meeting where the community will once again have the opportunity to comment. “We are encouraging our community to attend this meeting and learn about what is in the plan and give their feedback,” said Assistant General Manager Adam Ly. “This is their opportunity to propose any changes. We appreciate the community’s excellent participation in the survey and hope to continue seeing their involvement in this very important topic.” The HMP evaluates the threats posed by natural disasters, such as earthquakes, dam failures, and extreme weather, and establishes PWD strategies for managing those risks. In addition, the plan will allow PWD to apply for federal and state hazard mitigation grants and disaster relief funds. The HMP is updated every five years.
