Revised Draft Water Waste Regulation Released, New Comment Period Open by Emily Allshouse Jan 31, 2018 Water News The State Water Resources Control Board on Jan. 31 released a revised draft of its proposed regulation to implement permanent prohibitions against certain waste water use practices. The board will accept comments on the revised proposal until 12 p.m. on Feb. 14, and is expected to consider adoption of the proposed regulation at its Feb. 20 meeting. In its Dec. 21 comment letter, ACWA outlined several concerns with the initial draft regulation including the need to clarify the prohibition on applying water directly to hardscapes when required for health and safety purposes, and the wholesale prohibition of turf irrigation on public street medians and publicly-owned or maintained landscapes. ACWA staff is analyzing the revised proposal and will submit additional comments, as needed. For more information on the proposed rulemaking, please visit the State Water Board’s Regulation on Waste and Unreasonable Water Uses webpage. ACWA members with questions should contact ACWA Director of State Regulatory Relations Dave Bolland at (916) 441-4545.
