Members Encouraged to Use Videos in Education and Outreach Efforts

ACWA has developed three additional episodes of the “California H2O: Flowing For the Future” video series to help member agencies inform their customers, elected officials, and key stakeholders about critical water issues.

The video series, which will eventually include 10 episodes, officially debuted last year. The videos offer a statewide perspective on important water issues and feature interviews with member agencies to highlight the innovation and collaboration of local agencies.

The new episodes, now available for download, are described below.

  • “Investing in Our Future” looks at the need to invest in aging infrastructure and highlights innovative ways in which water agencies are using technology to keep that investment cost as low as possible for customers.
  • “Fixing the Bay-Delta. What’s at Stake” examines the key issues that make the Delta one of the state’s most crucial water resources.
  • “Small Changes, Big Impact” highlights how water agencies have helped Californians embrace a more water-efficient way of life through education and rebate programs.

Background Information

ACWA’s Communications Committee developed the concept for the video series in 2017 and the Board of Directors approved it in March 2018. ACWA hired J Comm, Inc. to produce the videos in coordination with the Communications Department. Funding for the project is provided by ACWA and member agency sponsorships.

The video topics were selected to reflect ACWA’s Priority Goals. The first three focused on the need for more water storage, state-of-the-art treatment facilities to ensure high quality drinking water, and increasing use of technology to improve efficiency in agriculture irrigation.

The final four videos will highlight the following topics: investing in drought resiliency, forest management, the water-energy nexus, and implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. The final episodes will debut at ACWA’s 2019 Fall Conference & Exhibition in San Diego.

The full-length videos are approximately 5 minutes long. Shorter versions are also available for promotional purposes and as social media teasers.

Suggested Activities

  1. Member agencies are encouraged to either download the videos from ACWA’s website or link to them at acwa.com/h2ovideo
  2. Use the videos in your education and outreach efforts by posting on your website, playing in lobbies, and showing during public presentations, on tours and at community events.
  3. Encourage customers to view the videos on your website through newsletter articles, bill inserts and other materials. Also promote on social media channels using the shorter, teaser versions.
  4. Provide copies of the videos to local schools to use in their education efforts.
