Subject: OEHHA’S Five-Year Review of the Perchlorate Public Health Goal

Letter excerpt:

On behalf of the Southern California Water Coalition (SCWC) and Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), we are writing regarding the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment’s (OEHHA) five-year review of the public health goal (PHG) for perchlorate. 1OEHHA last revised the perchlorate PHG in 2015, and the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) is currently gathering additional perchlorate occurrence data for purposes of reviewing and possibly updating the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for perchlorate. This convergence creates an ideal opportunity for OEHHA to review and revise the perchlorate PHG as part of a broader effort we recommend to align the state’s implementation of the California Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) with the SWRCB’s goals for implementation of the Human Right to Water Act.2
