DSRSD Adopts New Energy Policy to Enhance Sustainability and Efficiency by Dublin San Ramon Services District Apr 8, 2024 Member Submitted News DUBLIN – On February 20, 2024, the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) Board of Directors unanimously adopted a new Energy policy, marking a significant step forward in the District’s commitment to improving long-term energy efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability. The newly adopted policy was created following the preparation of the District’s Energy Facilities Master Plan, which includes a comprehensive assessment of DSRSD’s facilities, its use of energy, and its overall environmental impact, and a recommended portfolio of energy projects. Ann Marie Johnson, DSRSD Board President, expressed the Board’s support for the new policy, stating, “It’s nice to see the Energy policy come to fruition. Not only is adoption of this policy a major goal of the District’s Strategic Plan, but it also demonstrates DSRSD’s dedication to energy resiliency, conservation, and environmental stewardship.” DSRSD’s Energy policy includes eight policy statements designed to provide a flexible framework for enhancing energy system resilience and reliability, optimizing efficiency, increasing renewable energy production, and ensuring compliance with energy and greenhouse gas mandates. Additionally, the policy outlines three goals to be achieved by 2030 and 2045: By 2030, the District aims to utilize 100% of the biogas generated at its Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility. By 2045, DSRSD targets a 25% reduction in total electricity purchases compared to 2021 levels. By 2045, the District endeavors to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to 2021 levels. “For decades, DSRSD has been an industry leader in using biogas to power our wastewater treatment facilities, which keeps energy costs down for our ratepayers,” said Steve Delight, DSRSD Engineering and Technical Services Director. “This Energy policy helps the District take that leadership a step further.” The District will immediately begin work on three projects identified in the Energy Facilities Master Plan. These projects include the installation of solar facilities with battery storage and electric vehicle charging capabilities on District properties as well as enhancements to the wastewater treatment plant for improved energy reliability and resiliency. These initiatives not only contribute to energy savings but also support the adoption of zero-emission vehicles and bolster environmental sustainability efforts. DSRSD’s commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond the Energy policy to include efforts to evaluate and pursue funding opportunities for energy-related initiatives, implement cost-effective operational practices, and promote sustainable fleet management practices.
