Privacy Policy

The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) recognizes and is committed to your need for protection and privacy on the Internet.

In general, you can visit our Web site (acwa.com) without telling us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. We do collect the IP addresses and domain names of visitors for site administration purposes, such as analyzing the data for trends and statistics. No personal information is obtained; rather, patterns of usage of our various users may be tracked and monitored. We may share statistical or aggregated non-personal information about our users with business partners, sponsors or other third parties. This data is used to customize our Web site content to deliver a better experience to our users.

This privacy policy identifies what personal information is collected from visitors to ACWA’s Web site, how the information is used and under what conditions it is shared or released to another party.

Information that may be collected

When you visit acwa.com, ACWA may collect and store and following information about your visit:

  1. Internet Protocol (IP) address and domain name used.
The IP address is a numerical identifier assigned either to your Internet Service Provider or directly to your computer. It is not your e-mail address. ACWA uses IP addresses to identify and log the most common browsers used, the date and times of visits to the site, duration of visits to the site, Web pages and features accessed at the site, and other Web sites visited immediately prior to entering the ACWA Web site. This information – which does not identify any visitors personally – is used to improve the content of our Web site and help us understand how people use the site.
  2. Personal profile, if created by a visitor.
If you choose to create a username and profile on acwa.com or sign up for updates from ACWA, we ask for your name and e-mail address. The information is used to send you news and information about ACWA and its programs, and to aggregate information of interest to you on the Web site. ACWA does not sell this information to any third party.
  3. E-mail correspondence and survey responses.
If during your visit to acwa.com you participate in a survey or send an e-mail to ACWA, the following information will be collected: the e-mail address and contents of the e-mail, and any information you volunteered in response to a survey. Contents of the e-mail message will be used to respond to your message, to assist in obtaining the information requested, or to further improve the ACWA Web site. Survey information will be used for the purpose designated.

Personal information and choice

“Personal information” is information about an individual that is readily identifiable to that specific individual. Personal information includes personal identifiers such as an individual’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address. An IP number or domain name is not considered personal information.

ACWA does not collect personal information about you unless you voluntarily create a username and profile or participate in an activity that asks for information, such as sending an e-mail or participating in a survey. Any information so collected will be used for the purposes stated above.
