Under direct supervision, performs entry-level paraprofessional field and office engineering work, which includes assisting in the management and plan review of developer projects, and assisting in the management, planning, design, and construction of District projects. Under direct supervision, this incumbent will work with developers, contractors and representatives of other agencies regarding facility and infrastructure development and project review; assist in administering professional services and construction contracts; provide assistance to the professional engineers and department staff; perform Fats, Oils and Grease inspections; perform other field inspections; provide assistance with utility locates; prepare and present reports; perform related work as assigned.


Receives direct supervision from Senior Engineer. No direct supervision of staff is exercised.

Class Characteristics
This is the entry-level class in the engineering series. Incumbents perform the more routine tasks in the field of civil engineering. As experience and proficiency are gained, assignments become more technically diverse and difficult, while incumbents are expected to exercise increasing independence of judgment.


Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related engineering field.

Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of an Engineer-In-Training Certification, or procurement within two years from the date of hire.
