The Yuba Water Agency is recruiting for the position of Electrical Technician within our Maintenance division in the Power Systems Department. The position would report directly to the Maintenance Manager, with direct supervision by the Supervising Electrical Technician.

The ideal candidate can perform all routine Electrical and Electrical Technician maintenance associated with the operation of all power plant generation, transmission and water control equipment related to the maintenance and repair of water supply, flood control, hydroelectric and recreation facilities and all related components of the Yuba Water Agency’s facilities.

The ideal candidate is skilled in problem solving can work independently and build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other agency employees, government entities, contract providers and the public using principles of good customer service.

Typical Tasks

Participate in the testing, maintenance, repair and installation of electrical equipment, high voltage apparatus, protective relays and PLC’s. Perform protective relay testing, calibration and documenting settings as needed for NERC / WECC compliance. You will also be working with High Voltage generation equipment such as switchgear, breakers and transformers. The candidate will use metering and measuring devices, work on supervisory and control equipment and wiring associated with the generation and transmission of electricity in a hydroelectric facility.


Education: Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Basic math skills, and completion of Algebra is preferred.

Experience: 2 years of journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment and systems similar to that found in Agency Power Project preferred, as well as experience with Allen-Bradley Governor Control Logic, RTU, SCADA, DCS Systems, Generator Exciter and AVR Systems is highly desired.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid California driver’s license. Completion of an Electrical Apprentice Program.

  • Health Insurance: 1-party is $1,057.01, 2-party is $2,114.02, and 3+party is $2,748.23 per month. Any premiums in excess of the amounts shall be paid by the employee.
  • Dental: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependents
  • Vision: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependents
  • Vacation: Accrued at 12.6 hours per calendar month
  • Sick Leave: Accrued at 10 hours per calendar month
  • Holidays: 12 official holidays
  • Retirement: CalPERS: For classic members 2% @ 55 formula and the agency will pay 5% of the employee’s 7% contribution to CalPERS. For all others, subject to the provisions of AB340 with a 2%@ 62 formula
  • Retiree health through the agency upon completion of ten (10) years of service credit with the agency and retirement from CalPERS. The agency’s present contribution for each annuitant, including enrollment of his/her family members, is a maximum of $1,850 per month.
  • Deferred Compensation: Voluntary participation in Agency Plans. The agency will contribute 7.65% amount towards the plan.
  • Life Insurance: $50,000
  • Educational/training tuition reimbursement available
