The Alameda County Water District, in Fremont, California, is seeking a talented electrical engineer to perform a wide-range of duties and technical oversight for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of electrical systems throughout District facilities. Under general supervision, assumes technical responsibility and performs a wide variety of electrical power and, secondarily, control systems engineering work related to the preventive maintenance, repair, advanced troubleshooting, condition assessment, analysis and design, planning, project management and field work for low and medium voltage electrical equipment and control systems throughout potable water supply, treatment, pumping and distribution facilities.

Work duties are broad and include: Evaluation of existing and proposed electrical systems and equipment including load studies and sizing, selective coordination, protective relaying, short circuit studies, arc flash, engine generators and motor control centers; Manage electrical testing and preventive maintenance programs; Project management including identification and scoping of repair and improvement projects, cost estimating, detailed design, field testing and completion of small projects with District electricians and/or contractors; Support of District electricians through training, troubleshooting, development of SOPs, and direction for complex field activities; provide technical guidance for development and implementation of electrical safety program and safe work practices; Manage relationship with PG&E including energy budgeting, power monitoring and usage analysis, service and outage coordination, evaluation of energy conservation and efficiency programs, and power quality issues; and Provide support for the design and maintenance of SCADA and programmable logic controller systems. Experience in water, wastewater or industrial facilities is preferred. Although not required, the ideal candidate is licensed in the State of California as a professional engineer.

Education and Experience – Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
A bachelor’s degree in an engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development, or a California Engineer-In-Training Certificate; and two years (2) within the past ten, of practical engineering experience an advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Working Knowledge of: Engineering principles, terms, practices and technology related to electrical systems; engineering mathematics through calculus; engineering methods, and design processes; statistical analysis methods and design processes; computer programs, languages and engineering applications; pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes, regulations and industry standards governing electrical installations and practices; knowledge of safe work practices including OSHA as they relate to the position and the ability to identify workplace hazards and/or unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to correct same.

Skill in: Apply engineering principles and practices to the solution of specific engineering problems; conduct literature searches and research available sources of information; perform difficult mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; interpret and prepare drawings, graphs, charts and compilations of numerical data; effectively use job-related computer and software applications.
