The BBID is seeking initiative-taking individuals to join its irrigation water distribution team in operating, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading its canal and ditch agricultural irrigation water system. Under supervision, this entry-level job classification may perform the following duties: Coordinates pipeline, canal and ditch repair with farmers, other district employees, and contractors. Manages water delivery to farms by receiving water orders, estimating water needs and managing pumps, gates and meters. Tracks and reports water orders and water delivery information and data. Performs construction and maintenance of canal systems and other district facilities. Is familiar with and operates, inspects, and maintains all district equipment, tools, instruments and vehicles. Conducts canal and ditch vegetation removal. Controls the opening and closing of side gates to regulate water delivery. Inspects and operates pumps and other related equipment. Inspects, reports any damage or maintenance needs, and maintains gates, valves, boxes, and all other related facilities and components of the water delivery system. Performs accurate flow measurements with District assigned meters and other means of flow measurement. Attends training sessions and classes as needed to gain knowledge and expertise in maintenance and operation of all BBID equipment, tools, vehicles and other facilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
