Leaders in the Water Energy Nexus Registry (WEN Registry) are developing California’s first-ever verified greenhouse gas (GHG) metrics for water. Recently, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) became the first water agency to develop, report, and verify GHG performance metrics for the State Water Project, which provides water to more than two-thirds of the state. Other agencies like Sonoma Water are following closely in their footsteps to develop metrics for their own operations. This public data is an important leap forward in mapping the GHG intensity of California’s water supply chains. Water managers that receive water from Sonoma Water and the State Water Project can use these metrics to understand the emissions embedded in their water supplies, and customers can better understand the emissions associated with the water they purchase. Join us to hear from former CA Senator Fran Pavley, Dale Roberts from Sonoma Water, and Jordi Vásquez from DWR to learn how this new data is bolstering climate action and data-driven decision making in the water sector.
