This 1.5 hour CLE program will provide an overview of the role of the lawyer in preparation of contracts, plain language drafting, the structure of a well-drafted contract, and communicating with clients and counterparties. This session is ideal for new and experienced lawyers alike, providing practical guidance and real-world examples. JANUARY 29 (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM) | 1.5 hour General MCLE credit Contract Drafting for Water Lawyers: Form vs. Manuscript This session is designed to cover the distinctions between and details for handling form contracts versus custom or “manuscript” contracts. This 1.5 hour CLE program will provide a high-level overview of procurement contracting options, as well as agreements for non-procurement related contracts such as inter-governmental agreements, real estate transactions, and settlement agreements. The program will also cover practical approaches to redlining and version control, and differences in 2-party versus multi-party negotiations. APRIL 16 (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM) | 1.5 hour General MCLE credit Contract Drafting for Water Lawyers: Risk Allocation Basics This session is designed to cover the high-level basics of risk management through allocation of duties and rights, insurance and indemnity, term and termination, and default and remedies provisions.
