The public is invited to weigh in on the proposed goals and objectives for the Sacramento Regional Water Bank, a groundwater storage program utilizing the expansive reservoir under the urban core for storing water during wet times for use during dry times, during a virtual Stakeholder Forum on February 13, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Forum’s key topics are expected to include:

  • Proposed Water Bank goals, objectives and guiding principles
  • Existing regulations and guidelines that will apply to the Water Bank’s operation
  • Update on the Water Bank’s progress and development

Registration for the meeting can be found here:  https://stantec.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_F1cxNniKTJureBGK5TG4MQ

This is the second of several Stakeholder Forums planned. The goal of the Water Bank public engagement process is to share information, answer questions and gather input about how a Water Bank could be operated and expanded in the Sacramento region. Input from stakeholder discussions will provide a foundation for continuing development of the Water Bank.

Information about the Water Bank and public engagement process, including a link to a recording and materials from the first Stakeholder Forum hosted on October 26, 2022, is available here: https://rwah2o.org/waterbankengage/

The Water Bank is identified as one of several key strategies for addressing the projected impacts of climate change on local water supplies in the American River Basin Study produced by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in partnership with local water agencies.

Funding for Water Bank development has been provided in part from the Budget Act of 2021 through a grant from the California Department of Water Resources.

The Regional Water Authority (RWA) is a joint powers authority representing nearly two dozen water providers serving 2 million people in the greater Sacramento region. Formed in 2001, its primary mission is to help its members protect and enhance the reliability, availability, affordability and quality of water resources. Learn more at rwah2o.org.
