Putah Creek Project by Solano County Water Agency Mar 23, 2026 In the fall of 2025, a record 2,150 King Salmon (Chinook salmon) returned to spawn in Putah Creek as a result of functional flows, habitat restoration, floodplain connectivity and improved passage. While the creek has received consistent flows for almost a decade, adult salmon did not routinely seek out the creek until additional actions occurred. That includes improved fish passage, gravel bed restoration and improved rearing habitat along the banks. In 2025, Solano County Water Agency placed 500 tons of gravel in the creek. The same year, they also implemented a test release of extra water, timed to mimic natural flows, a technique known as functional flows. You can read more about the success at Putah Creek here.
