Here are some examples of efforts to promote transparency and ensure and locally-accountable government by ACWA members:

Online Transparency Centers

A number of ACWA member agencies have dedicated areas within their website to promote transparency and open government. These webpages include information ranging from district governance to finance to public records requests and legal information.  Examples include:

Special District Leadership Foundation Transparency Awards

Tuolumne Utilities District’s Public Engagement Campaign

In order to involve the public in water supply decisions for the district, Tuolumne Utilities District launched an ambitious public engagement project, forming a Community Water Council to discuss the county’s water supply challenges and propose solutions. During the project, a series of community meetings were held and a new website was created to serve as an information hub providing the history and evolution of the county’s water supply and an overview of water supply challenges in the region. In the project’s final report, community members identified four key priorities for TUD and TUD’s Board of Directors laid out the specific actions it plans to take to reach the goals.
