In March 2010, ACWA released its “Policy Principles on Climate Change,” addressing the effects of climate change on water management in California such as more frequent drought, changes in runoff patterns from the Sierra Nevada, increased flooding intensity as well as impacts to the operations of the State’s surface storage facilities.

The 11 policy principles address issues such as ensuring California water supply infrastructure can meet the challenges presented by climate change, the need for local resource investments, creating consistency between local, state and federal climate change policies, and ensuring flexible, efficient and cost effective responses to climate change, among other issues.
